Discussion Summary

As professional associations and certifying bodies continue to modernize their member experiences, they are also facing a growing challenge: the increasing sophistication of identity fraud, fake credentials, diploma mills, and falsified certifications. In this session, Dan Giurescu, CEO of Credivera, will explore emerging risks impacting associations across Canada and around the world, and why protecting the integrity of memberships, certifications, designations, and professional credentials has never been more important.

Drawing on examples from healthcare, education, and professional regulation, Dan will examine how organizations are responding to credential fraud and what leaders need to know about the changing landscape of digital trust. Participants will gain insight into real-world examples of credential misuse, the growing prevalence of fabricated qualifications, and the downstream risks these issues create for associations, regulators, employers, and the public.

The webinar will also introduce the emerging role of verifiable credentials and digital identity technologies in strengthening trust across the member lifecycle. Attendees will learn how leading organizations are leveraging modern credentialing approaches to securely verify achievements, simplify credential management, and provide members with trusted, portable digital records of their qualifications. The session will highlight innovations currently underway in Canada's healthcare sector and discuss how similar approaches can be applied across a wide range of association and certification environments.

Finally, Dan will discuss practical strategies for incorporating identity verification into member onboarding, certification, and renewal processes. From low-friction identity verification to trusted digital credentials, attendees will leave with a better understanding of how associations can proactively reduce fraud, protect their brand reputation, and build greater confidence in the credentials they issue and manage. A live Q&A will follow the presentation, providing participants with an opportunity to discuss their organization's unique challenges and opportunities.
